Misaligned Spinning Binary Black Hole Mergers in Hot Magnetized Plasma

چکیده
We present general relativistic magneto-hydrodynamical simulations of equal-mass spinning black hole binary mergers embedded in a magnetized gas cloud. focus on the effect spin orientation relative to orbital angular momentum flow dynamics, mass accretion rate and Poynting luminosity. find that, across inspiral, accreting onto individual holes concentrates into disk-like overdensities, whose momenta are oriented towards axes which persist until merger. identify quasi-periodic modulations occurring at level 1-20%, evolving parallel with gravitational wave chirp. The similarity between time-series strain is consequence interplay strong, dynamical fields magnetic vicinity inspiralling holes. This result suggests that quasi-periodicity pre-merger massive binaries not exclusive environments circumbinary disk, could provide an additional useful signature electromagnetic emission concurrent low-frequency detection.

Gravitational Recoil from Spinning Binary Black Hole Mergers
The inspiral and merger of binary black holes will likely involve black holes with both unequal masses and arbitrary spins. The gravitational radiation emitted by these binaries will carry angular as well as linear momentum. A net flux of emitted linear momentum implies that the black hole produced by the merger will experience a recoil or kick. Previous studies have focused on the recoil veloc...

I overview the current understanding of the evolution of massive black hole (MBH) binaries in the center of the host stellar system. One of the main questions is whether the stellar dynamical effect can make the MBH binary hard enough that they can merge through gravitational wave radiation. So far, theories and numerical simulations suggested otherwize, since the hardening timescale becomes ve...

www.physicstoday.org After decades of effort, numerical relativists can now simulate the inspiral and merger of two black holes orbiting each other. That computational triumph has come none too soon—physicists are on the verge of detecting gravitational waves for the first time, and at long last they know what to look for. Black holes are strong-field objects whose properties are governed by Ei...
متن کاملSupermassive black hole binary mergers
Massive merging black holes will be the primary sources of powerful gravitational waves at low frequency, and will permit to test General Relativity if we identify candidate galaxies that are close to a binary black hole merger. In this paper we show that for a typical range of mass ratios of the two black holes the final stage of the merger is preceded by a rapid precession and a subsequent sp...
متن کاملSupermassive binary black hole mergers
When galaxies collide, dynamical friction drives their central supermassive black holes close enought to each other such that gravitational radiation becomes the leading dissipative effect. Gravitational radiation takes away energy, momentum and angular momentum from the compact binary, such that the black holes finally merge. In the process, the spin of the dominant black hole is reoriented. O...
